The Battery is situated some 2km inland from the coast. It is therefore an indirect fire battery and has to rely on others to watch the fall of shot.

The impressive casemate N°1, type H611with all its components: magazines, gas locked entry, close defence room for machine gun, troop room, cellar.

Reconstitution, inside the Museum, of Leutnant Steiner’s Forward Observation Post.

This is Leutnant Steiner, in 1990, in front of his Forward Observation Post.
It was in this bunker that he took part in actions against the invasion. He gave his orders to Sergeant-Major Buskotte by telephone through an armoured underground cable, and called in fire from another battery on to the Merville Battery when it was threatened.

One of the numerous bunkers of Stüzpunkt W 05 with another massive bunker in perspective. The importance of the defences plan here meant it was called “Heavy”.We are in front of the old Vauban Redoubt with the Orne Estuary facing us.
